i want to attempt my first soaker or maybe shorties... or longies, who knows. anyway i am in love with a ton of pretty wool on etsy and i checked the aubrey doodlepants pattern but i don't see anywhere where it says how much wool i will need? i know it depends on the size of my babe but... i need a guideline! anyone? i'm thinking it'll be a medium/largish... tia!

ETA: if i knit with merino should i elasticize the waist or something? i've heard it can lose its shape after a while... (i think that's merino, right?)

Someone here in Kalama is giving away free raw wool. Anyone here a spinner and want me to get it for you. Just pay shipping from me to you? http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/zip/1304661920.html

Question about rise length [Apr. 18th, 2009|11:16 pm]

Just found this community :)

I'm knitting my first pair of longies, from the Audrey Doodlepants pattern. Being lazy, I decided just to follow the example instructions which were for a medium thinking my little one can just grow into them, he's 13 weeks so I figure a medium will probably fit him this autumn or so, and it saved me having to work out anything. This was fine until the pattern says to continue working until the desired amount of rise. Well that kinda makes it difficult to work out as my baby isn't that size yet so I don't know how much his rise would be. His rise is about 16" now (with cloth on), so should I just add a couple of inches or more?

Hey! I'm new here. I can FINALLY read patterns (I just knitted an oversized baby sock for practice, yay!) and I need HELP!

I'm over PUL covers and I've pretty much got the hang of knitting now. Does anyone have a favorite pattern for soakers, longies and skirties? Also - I've heard a lot about scented wool wash but I have no clue who makes it or if there is any specific brand that is better than another.. ANY help would be appreciated :)

I'm sure I could do anything with a basic soaker pattern (add skirtie, legs for longies or short legs for shorties) so a GOOD basic soaker pattern may be all I need for right now :)

Hi all! I'm starting to knit again after a long hiatus. I have two questions...

1) When doing the increases for the gusset in the crotch on longies, what's the best increase to use? I just did up a pair using M1f and the two sides of the gusset don't really match. Would it be better to do M1f and M1b on either side of the gusset? Would that make it match better?

2) When switching colors, like to make striped legs, what's the best way to switch/join the yarn? I used to just knit the two strands together when I went to switch but you can see the two colors together when you do that and I'd rather not. I tried to find it on knittinghelp.com but I think I'm phrasing it wrong because I can't find anything and I know it's got to be there somewhere. Thank you!!!

felted hat question [Oct. 3rd, 2008|03:11 pm]

I would like to make my friends daughter a felted princess hat for her 3rd birthday. This is the pattern I found:
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/na_knitting/article/0,2025,DIY_14141_4871269,00.html

Luckly, I have an ungodly amount of yarn to choose from. I have peace fleece, 3ply purewool and patton's classic merino. I've never felted anything before. Any suggestion on which yarn would felt up the best?

Thanks!

when your are stitching over top of knitted stitches to create a pattern or picture,... is there a specific name for this technique?
Would this still be "embroidery" or something different?

I'm making some childrens sweaters for the fall and although I love wool, I would prefer to have sweaters in the more washable blends/ arcyrlics.  So, where can I get some snazzy varigated or handpainted worsted weight & aran weight arcrylics?

Links please!!!
