BRIGHT yarn [Feb. 25th, 2008|08:41 pm]
We are here to help!

I'm having a serious craving for some variegated, soaker-suitable, BRIGHT happy yarn. I had my eye on something like these, but my stalker qualities suck. They were sold in seriously 5 seconds flat.

Does anyone know of a source for a similar yarn? Everything hand-dyed I'm finding so far is much too subdued to my taste.

another newbie question [Feb. 6th, 2008|08:23 am]
We are here to help!

I need needles. Specifically, I need 16" #8 circular needles, double-pointed needles, and I think I want a set of #8 regular needles as well. What are the best kinds to buy and what online stores are the best places to get them.

Should I get kits with lots of different needles, or are there other frequently used sizes that I should pick up?

questions! [Feb. 5th, 2008|02:21 pm]
We are here to help!

I want to knit a pair of longies or shorties in about a size medium. I have never ever knit before, and plan to buy the Picky Pants pattern (unless someone convinces me otherwise - I'm flying blind here).

My question is about wool... I plan to buy wool from this place

but I don't know whether I need one-ply or three-ply? One skein or two?

Also, anyone know a good place to buy needles (online) for knitting in the round?

Typically how many yards of merino wool does it take to make a pair of newborn longies? The wool I'm looking at is 3.5 oz/218 yards approx. I need to figure out if I should buy one skein or two. Any idea? Just a rough guess is all I need.

help with boot cut longies. [Dec. 1st, 2007|11:23 pm]
We are here to help!

Okay, I am knitting some longies and the customer would like a boot cut on the legs. She doesn't want a huge flair, but a slight boot cut.

So, how would you increase for that?

Ok I think I'm gonna try cables. Can anyone suggest a tutorial or easy pattern for a beginner cable knitter? Thanks so much!

Does anyone know of a good men's sweater pattern that is knit in the round? I want to make my husband one but man, flat knitting makes my brain explode and those are the only patterns I can find.

wonderpants, magic loop decreasing [Oct. 4th, 2007|11:59 am]
We are here to help!

OK, I'm finally getting around to making my first pair of Wonderpants. All was going fine and dandy until I reached the beginning of the magic loop and crotch shape decreasing.

I've knitted up to marker C and am now told to "pull the needle through so a loop of cable is pulled out". I understand that this is the beginning of the magic loop and I have the watched the video on knittinghelp.com so I get how it works, but I don't understand from these instructions where to pull the loop from. Help?

When knitting legs of a pair of longies or shorties do you prefer to magic loop or knit them independently?

Just wondering what everyone else does...
